Fluendo MP3 Decoder 0.10.6

Update 9/9/07 - Fluendo MP3 and MPEG packages are now available from the Packman repositories.

If you use Packman, disregard the rest of this page.

You probably will not need this if you are planning on installing Xine and the Xine Win32 Codecs.

It's still a good idea to have this one though, and I install it every time.

GStreamer 0.10.3 (or higher) and glibc 2.4 (or higher).

If you have root access, copy libgstflump3dec.so to the /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10 folder.  This method makes the mp3 decoder available to all users on the system.

Example:  /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstflump3dec.so

If you do not have root access, copy libgstflump3dec.so to your $home/.gstreamer-0.10/plugins folder.  This method makes mp3 playback only available to your account.

Example:  /home/sgt-d/.gstreamer-0.10/plugins/libgstflump3dec.so

Test gstreamer to see if it recognizes the mp3 decoder:

gst-inspect-0.10 flump3dec

Unless this command reports "No such element or plugin - flump3dec", the plugin should be sucessfully installed and you should have access to playing back MP3 files using GStreamer....  including applications such as Totem Movie Player, Rhythmbox Music Player, Banshee Music player or the Elisa Media center.
